Portable Document Format (PDF) files allow users to create secure, professional documents that may include text, pictures, video and other graphics. The process for including PDF information in the body of an email varies depending upon the platform you use as well as the type of information you want to copy.

Requirements
Computer users can copy details from PDF files by using the Adobe Reader, available for free. Developers may use the PDF format to protect information against copying, so first see if you are allowed to copy the information. Right-click anywhere on the PDF document and select 'Document Properties.' Click the 'Security' tab at the top to see what permissions are granted or blocked, such as printing. It must say 'Allowed' next to 'Content Copying.'
Partial Document with Windows
You can copy either text or images from a PDF file in Windows. Open the PDF document and then right-click anywhere on the page. Choose âSelect Toolâ from the menu that appears. Click and drag across the text you want to copy or click anywhere on the image you want. Right-click on the selected area and choose âCopyâ or âCopy Image.â Open the email and paste by holding down the 'Control' key and then âV,â or right-click and select âPasteâ from the menu.
Entire Document with Windows
If you simply drag and copy the entire file, the formatting may not transfer when you paste into your email. The best way to copy an entire PDF file on a computer running Windows is to copy and paste using the clipboard. Open the PDF file in the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click on âEditâ from the menu along the top and select âCopy File to Clipboard.â Open the email you want to send and paste the file by holding down the 'Control' key and then âV,â or right-click and select âPasteâ from the menu.
Mac
Mac computers may not have the clipboard Windows machines do, so the process differs slightly using the Adobe Reader. After opening the file in the reader, click to open the âEditâ menu and select âTake a Snapshot.â When a checkmark appears next to the âTake a Snapshotâ option, point your cursor at one corner of the portion of the PDF file you want to copy and drag until the section is all included within the rectangle. Open the mail document and paste your selection using âControlâ and âVâ or âEditâ and âPaste.â

Move an image or object in frontor behind other elements
The Arrange options let you move an image or object in front of or behind other elements. You can push an item forward or back just one level, or send it to the front or back of the stacking order of elements on the page.
The Align Objects options in the right-hand panel let you precisely align multiple objects on a side - left, vertical center, right, top, horizontal centre, and bottom.
When you align objects relative to each other by their edges, one of the objects remains stationary. For example, the left option aligns the left edges of the selected objects with respect to the left edge of the leftmost object. The leftmost object remains stationary, and the other objects are aligned relative to it.
The horizontal center option aligns the selected objects horizontally through the centre of the objects, and the vertical center option aligns the selected objects vertically through the centers of the objects. The objects are aligned along a horizontal or vertical line that represents the average of their original positions. An object can remain stationary if it is already aligned with the horizontal or vertical line.
Depending on the alignment option you select, objects move straight up, down, left, or right, and might overlap an object already located there. If you see an overlap, you can undo the alignment.
You can edit an image or graphic using another application, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or Microsoft Paint. When you save the image or graphic, Acrobat automatically updates the PDF with the changes. The applications that appear in the Edit Using menu depend upon what you have installed and the type of image or graphic you have selected. Optionally, you can specify the application you want to use.
You can save every page (all text, images, and vector objects on a page) to an image format using the File > Export To > Image > [Image Type] command. You can also export each image in a PDF to a separate image file.

PDFs were designed to be a universal, easy-to-read document format, and they serve that purpose well. If you have a collection of imagesâsay, documents you scanned into your computer as JPEGsâyou can combine them into a PDF document for easy sharing.
Windows 10 now includes an option to print to a PDF file natively in File Explorer. You can simply select a bunch of image files and print them to a PDF file directly within File Explorer. If youâre using Windows 10, start with the first section below.
If you use Windows 7 or 8, the procedure is the same as in Windows 10, but you have to install a third-party tool to be able to accomplish the same task. We discuss this tool in the third section below.
How to Print to a PDF File in Windows 10
To combine a group of images into a PDF file in Windows 10, first you need to make sure your files are listed in File Explorer in the order you want them to appear in the PDF file. You might have to rename them so they get sorted the way you want.
Once you have your images in the right order, select them all and right-click on them. Select âPrintâ from the popup menu.
The Print Pictures dialog box displays. Select âMicrosoft Print to PDFâ from the âPrinterâ drop-down list. If you donât see that option in the list, see the next section for information on activating it. Then, continue with the process from here.
Use the right and left arrow button below the image to scroll through the images that will be added to the PDF file. Click the âOptionsâ link in the lower-right corner of the dialog box to access additional options for the PDF file.
NOTE: The images may look cut off, but donât worry. Weâll show you how to fix that a bit later in this article.
On the Print Settings dialog box, you can choose to sharpen the images for printing, if you know the PDF file will be printed. If you also know you will be printing the PDF file on your own printer most of the time, leave the âOnly show options that are compatible with my printerâ option selected to get the best results.
You can access properties for your printer from here by clicking the âPrinter Propertiesâ link.
On the Microsoft Print to PDF Document Properties dialog box, you can select whether you want to the document to be âLandscapeâ or âPortraitâ from the âOrientationâ drop-down list. Click âOKâ to accept the change or click âCancelâ if you donât want to save the change or you didnât change the orientation.
NOTE: If youâre using Windows 7, the Printer Properties link opens the doPDF Properties dialog box displays, allowing you to change the page Orientation (as well as other settings). Again, click âOKâ to accept your changes or click âCancelâ if you donât want to save the changes you made or you didnât make any changes.
You are returned to the Print Pictures dialog box. If you noticed earlier that the sides of your images seem to be cut off, click the âFit picture to frameâ check box so there is no check mark in the box. You should see the entire image now. Enabling or disabling the Fit picture to frame option affects all the images youâre adding to the PDF file.
Click âPrintâ to create your PDF file.
The Save Print Output As dialog box displays. Navigate to the location where you want to save the PDF file. The same directory where the images are stored is selected as the default location, but you can change that. Enter a file name for the PDF file in the âFile nameâ edit box and click âSaveâ.
Youâre done! The PDF file is created in the selected folder and you can open it in the default PDF viewer in Windows, or in any other PDF reader you have installed.
How to Activate the Microsoft Print to PDF Option in Windows 10
If the Microsoft Print to PDF option is not available in the Printer drop-down list on the Print Pictures dialog box, you can easily add it. To install the Microsoft Print to PDF printer driver, open the Print Pictures dialog box as we discussed in the previous section (if itâs not already open). Then, select âInstall Printerâ from the âPrinterâ drop-down list.
The Add a device dialog box displays and a search for devices begins. You donât need to wait for the search to finish. Click the âThe printer that I want isnât listedâ link near the bottom of the dialog box.
On the Add Printer dialog box, click the âAdd a local printer or network printer with manual settingsâ option and click âNextâ.
NOTE: You can also access this dialog box by opening PC Settings and clicking Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add a printer or scanner. Then, click the âThe printer that I want isnât listedâ link that displays on that screen as Windows tries to search for devices. The Printers & Scanners screen also contains a list of all the printers and scanners available on your system and you can set any one device as the default and remove any of the devices.
Then, make sure the âUse an existing portâ option is selected (itâs the default). Select âFILE: (Print to File)â from the drop-down list to the right of that option and click âNextâ.
To select the PDF printer driver, select âMicrosoftâ in the list on the left and then âMicrosoft Print To PDFâ in the list on the right. Click âNextâ.
You may already have this printer driver installed, in which case the following screen displays on the Add Printer dialog box asking which version of the driver you want to use. Make sure the âUse the driver that is currently installed (recommended)â option, which is the default, is selected and click âNextâ.
By default, the printer driver is named âMicrosoft Print To PDFâ. This name displays in the Printer drop-down list on the Print Pictures dialog box and anywhere else in Windows or programs where you would choose a printer. However, you can change the name by entering a new one in the âPrinter nameâ edit box. Click âNextâ.
You should get a message that the printer driver has successfully been added. If you print to PDF files more often than you actually print to your printer, you can set this driver as the default printer. To do so, click the âSet as the default printerâ check box so there is a check mark in the box. Click âFinishâ.
You are returned to the Print Pictures dialog box where the Microsoft Print To PDF printer driver has been added to the Printer drop-down list and is automatically selected. Now you can continue with the process in the first section to create a PDF file from the selected images.
How to Print to a PDF File in Windows 7 and 8
The procedure for creating a PDF file from multiple image files is the same in Windows 7 and 8 as it is in Windows 10 with one exception. When you right click on a group of selected image files and select âPrintâ from the popup menu to access the Print Pictures dialog box (as discussed in the first section above), youâll notice the absence of the Microsoft Print To PDF option in the Printer drop-down list.
There are many PDF tools available that will add a PDF printer driver to Windows when you install the program and those drivers will be available in the Printer drop-down list. Here, weâll show you how to install and use a tool called doPDF that will allow you to create a PDF file from multiple image files (among other useful features).
Download doPDF and install it. The next time you open the Print Pictures dialog box, âdoPDF 8â (thatâs the version number as of the time this article was published) is an option in the Printer drop-down list. Select that option.
Now, you can follow the same steps in the first section above for Windows 10 until you click âPrintâ to create the PDF file. Once you do that after selecting doPDF 8 from the Printer drop-down list, the doPDF 8 â Save PDF file dialog box displays. A default file name and location is automatically entered in the âFile nameâ edit box. To change that, click âBrowseâ.
The Browse dialog box displays. Navigate to the location where you want to save the PDF file. The same directory where the images are stored is selected as the default location, but you can change that. Enter a file name for the PDF file in the âFile nameâ edit box and click âSaveâ.
You are returned to the doPDF 8 â Save PDF file dialog box where you can select the quality and size of the PDF file and embed fonts under PDF options. If you want to always use the folder you just selected to save PDF files, click the âAlways use this folderâ check box so there is a check mark in the box. To open the PDF file in the default PDF reader program on your PC, make sure the âOpen PDF in readerâ check box is checked. Click âOKâ to start creating the PDF file.
The file is created and added to the folder you specified and it opens in the default PDF reader, if you selected that option.
PDF printer drivers can also be used to create a PDF file from any document that can be sent to a physical printer. Simply select the PDF driver as the device on the Print dialog box, rather than your standard printer.

I recently got a PDF file via email that had a bunch of great images that I wanted to extract as separate JPEG files so that I could upload them to my website. There are multiple ways to grab an image out of a PDF and the best way really depends on what tools you have installed on your system.
In this article, Iâm going to go through the six easiest ways I could figure out to capture an image from a PDF file. Iâm going to start with the most basic methods that donât require any paid or third-party software and then show you how it can be done in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Photoshop, if you have those installed.
Method 1 â Take a Screenshot
The first method entails taking a screenshot of the image in the PDF file. Obviously, this method is only useful if you need to capture a small number of images from a PDF file.
You can either use a third-party screen capture utility if you already have one installed or you can use the built-in screen snipping tool in Windows 7 and higher or screen capture shortcuts in OS X. On both operating systems, you can capture just a portion of your screen using the built-in features of the OS.
Method 2 â Free Online Tools
The next easiest method is to simply use a free online service that will extract the images for you and let you download them individually or as a compressed archive. The only issues with online services are that they will have some sort of restriction on the size of the PDF file and on the number of images the service will extract for free.
PDFaid.com is a terrible looking site that has ads stuffed into every free space on the site, but it does a good job of extracting high quality images from PDF files.
Choose your file, which can be up to 20 MB in size, select the image format you prefer (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP) and then click the Extract Images button. After a few seconds, youâll see a popup dialog where you can click to download a ZIP file of all the images.
ExtractPDF.com is another good site that has a cleaner look and better way of presenting the results. After you select your PDF file, which can only be 14 MB, youâll see a list of all the images found along with a small thumbnail.
I like this because you can choose which images to download in case you donât want to download all of them. This site only lets you download the images as PNG files, so youâll have to convert them to another image format yourself.
How To Put Pictures In A Pdf On A Galaxy S8Method 3 â Adobe Acrobat Reader
Another method that I have used that works well is using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program. First, go ahead and open your PDF file and scroll down to where the image you want to capture is located.
Next, click the Edit menu and select Take a Snapshot.
At this point, you could simply click and drag your mouse over the area of the image to capture a screenshot, but a better way is to click on the Edit menu again and choose Select All.
Now right-click on the image in the PDF file and youâll see an option called Copy Selected Graphic.
The image will be copied to the clipboard and you can paste it into any image editing program to save it out in your preferred format. I prefer to do the select and copy procedure because it grabs just the image without any extra parts of the screen.
Itâs worth noting that the first three methods require you to extract images individually rather than in a batch or all at once. The next three methods allow you to batch extract images.
Method 4 â Adobe Acrobat Pro
For those of you who have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed, itâs a lot easier to get all images out of a PDF at once. To do this, open Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and open the desired PDF file. Next, click on Tools and youâll see a bunch of icons, but the one you want to click on is Export PDF.
On the left, youâll see a small thumbnail image of the first page of the PDF document and on the right youâll see a bunch of options for exporting the file. Click on Image, click on the file format you want and then check the Export all images box.
Click on the Export button and youâll get another dialog where you have to choose the location for the exported image files. A default folder is selected, but you can change the location by clicking on the Choose a Different Folder button.
When you click on the folder, a Save As dialog will pop up and you have to give the image a name. The filename for each image will use whatever you type in as the base name followed by the page number and image number, i.e. CatPics_Page_1_Image0001.jpg.
Method 5 â Adobe Photoshop
If you have Photoshop installed instead of Acrobat Pro, itâs also very easy to extract all the images. Open Photoshop and open the PDF file as you normally open an image file. The PDF import dialog will appear automatically.
Click on the Images radio button and then select the images you want to open inside Photoshop. Use the SHIFT key to select more than one image. When you click OK, each image will be opened in a separate tab in Photoshop.
Method 6 â Freeware Program
If youâre wondering why I havenât mentioned any freeware programs, itâs because most of them have some kind of adware or spyware that comes along during the install. However, since there really is no other freeware method to batch extract images from a PDF other than the online method, I will mention one program I have used that works.
Some PDF Images Extract is freeware, but itâs a bit old. I ran the EXE file through VirusTotal and it came out completely clean, so thatâs a good thing. The only issue is that it sometimes crashes and there doesnât seem to be any way around that problem. Your mileage will vary.
Click on File, Open and choose your PDF document. You can actually select more than one file for some true batch image extracting. Click the little play button at the bottom and itâll start the process. By default, it creates a folder on the desktop with the same name as the PDF that contains all the images.
So those are six different ways you can get images out of a PDF file and hopefully one of them works for you. If not, post a comment and Iâll try to help. Enjoy!
